| Journal entry for Sunday, June 17, 2001Today's summary: Father's Day, sealant problems, inchworm and
ladybug sculptures, goldfish.Father's DayI woke up early to work on a card for my dad. I like how it turned
out... I scanned in the front
of the card and also the inside
of the card. Dad got a big kick out of it. I also gave him this
decidedy weird book. It's all about guys named Bob. "The Bob Book".
It has this kind of spooky, crowded, circa 1991 independent press
sort of feel to it. Sealant problemsStill trying to get that Denver garden art commission finished.
It figures that trouble would only become obvious at the last minute...
even so, I'm going to be able to work it out. There's something
wrong with the can of spray lacquer I was going to use. As a test
I sprayed some blades using one can of clear enamel, and it turned
out great. So I picked up a different can without really noticing,
shook it up thoroughly, and tried to seal one
of my insect specimens, but it came out all funky and frosted
instead of transparent. So that one is wrecked now, I think. It
was the same brand of enamel, too. Arrrrrrgh... At least I didn't
ruin the actual commission. I'll get a different brand and try that
one instead, maybe it'll be more consistent. Or maybe just that
one can was screwy, I don't know... Inchworm and ladybug sculptures, goldfishI expect to get these two packed up for shipment tomorrow, to send
via UPS ground the following day, insured. Take a look, inchworm
              and ladybug:
I might be shipping the 3 goldfish also, but it depends on whether
the lacquer feels totally dry. The weather has been less than ideal
for spraying sealant, these last few days... I'm figuring better
safe than sorry! I also have lighter blue, teal, and green glass
eyes for the goldfishes... since they're going to be underwater
against a black background, I'm spraypainting the back side of the
eye glass with chrome. That way they'll really catch the light and
reflect. (I hope!) As for the grasshopper, I'll take photos when the green copper
patina develops fully, then send it on out too. So maybe by midweek
these'll all be on their way... |
