Journal entry for November 13, 2001

Today's summary: "Bullet bees" and status update.

Real quick update here.

I went to Pennsylvania with flyingcar to buy bullets, as previously mentioned. Here's the resulting work, a rifle cartridge queen bee and her loyal hollow-point worker bee.

I framed these two together in a velvet-lined maple shadowbox display case which I stained, finished, and assembled myself.

The wire is 14 karat gold filled, and black copper. The stripes are adhesive backed black velvet... fuzzy and GOOD. The wings are #11 Swann-Morton scalpel blades. I didn't cut myself at all this time!

The queen bee's body is a Winchester 243 rifle cartridge, with copper-jacketed Nosler bullet with purple ballistic polymer tip.

The worker bee's body is a hollow point copper jacketed BMA .38 Special handgun bullet. I used the hollow point for the worker since it's the worker bees that sting. Heh.

In other news, I've been rushing around like a madwoman getting ready for the show, so I can send some work out within the next couple days. I've begun framing (and it looks GREAT, I'll post pictures whenever I have them). I also made a ladybug sculpture with VERY dark red wingcovers, and serrated wings. It's chunkier than my usual but still very cute in a deadly sort of way.

Let's see, what else... uh... well, it's just very busy and I should get back to it!
