Today's summary: A female senator who's against women's suffrage?!

(Imagine that sentence above being pronounced a la Charlton Heston: "A planet where apes evolved from men?!")

I'm not sure how long this link will work since it's a news website, so here's a few choice quotes from this female Arizona senator, Kay O'Connor.

"I'm an old-fashioned woman," Sen. Kay O'Connor told The Kansas City Star. "Men should take care of women, and if men were taking care of women (today) we wouldn't have to vote... I think the 19th Amendment, while it's not an evil in and of itself, is a symptom of something I don't approve of."

O'Connor said she does vote. But she said she believes that if men had been protecting the best interests of women, then women would not be forced to cast ballots and serve in the Legislature. Instead, they could stay home, raise families and tend to domestic duties, she said.

"If I don't get re-elected, my only punishment is to go home to my husband and my roses and my children and my grandchildren," she said. "And if the trips to Topeka get to be too much and my husband asks me to quit, I would."

I'm just dumbfounded. I mean, I'm also laughing my @$$ off due to the sheer irony, but I'm still dumbfounded. I had assumed it was a joke, but it's been reported by multiple newsfeeds. I'm sure that already her PR people are trying to downplay her statements. Hee hee hee.

As my coworker Skarlett pointed out, of course she's entitled to her own opinion. I agree of course... but, it just astounds me that she picked THAT particular career. That's what I find most amusing.
