Summary: Fossil slab sculpture technique, fish test in clay, dragonfly test in grout

In other news, I've continued to pursue my recent idea of making "fossil" type slab sculpture, low relief. I push different objects (keys, blades, screwdrivers, paperclips, forks, etc.) into the surface to leave an impression behind.

This ties in with the objects and linear form in my wire sculpture work. I might make some fossils illuminated with gold leaf or other metallic substances, or leave it as pure white, depends on my mood.

I've done two tests so far.

[sketch] Fossil fish in gray clay. The clay is really too brittle and dark, though.

[sketch] Fossil dragonfly test with cream colored grout mix. The grout mix doesn't pick up a detailed impression well, at all -- I'm a bit disappointed... the grout is much stronger than clay.
