Back online after a move, a hurricane, and a blackout. |
Well, wasn't THAT fun? Hurricane Isobel was scheduled to show up on the same day I was supposed to move... so I had to reschedule everything quickly to try and move sooner. Movers, power, phone, gas... whee! I went to get the "starter" load of groceries, heavy on the dry goods since a blackout was likely -- and sure enough, the power went out when the storm hit. Thankfully it was only gone for 24 hours, although the fire alarm system for the whole building (which as it turns out, was built into the wall of MY apartment) was very upset about this, and so it went "BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP" constantly for most of those 24 hours. Eventually it ran out of battery power, but between that and the total lack of a bed (that was the one thing I couldn't get delivered early, and then they didn't show up, and they had to reschedule...) I wasn't sleeping real well that night, and I was REAL cranky the next day. On the upside, the stove is gas, so I could cook even with the power out if I used a lighter to start it up. AND, the cable guy showed up and he installed our cable, which just came back online and therefore I have internet access. So. I now have all the essentials! Heh. I also set up my aquarium this weekend... when the water clears up a bit, I'll post some pictures in a later journal entry. Overall, it could have been a lot worse. Now I'm feeling fairly settled, although there are still a few evenings worth of work left to do, so I might not write much in my journal till later this week... but, my goal is to have some eBay listings up again for this Friday... so, stay tuned!
