Journal entry for August 14, 2001

Today's summary: So busy lately! and Otakon, my dealer's room loot.

Sorry I haven't written more this past month... life's been pretty crazy and I've been slacking journal-wise. Even so, I think this journal really does help me as an artist, so I want to keep it up.

Meanwhile, you can check out my previous two journal entries for photos from my Chincoteague vacation and photos of the 3 completed goldfish.

Otakon, my dealer's room loot.

We were at Otakon last weekend. It was a great con as usual. I took a few photos but they're not developed yet... when they are, I'll post them in a subsequent journal entry.

Friday was an ungodly annoying phenomenal inconvenience for about 6 hours, but, there's no point in getting into that.

I got lots of goodies in the dealer's room... Click pictures below to enlarge.

Translated compilations of the Akira manga, as a trade paperback. This is #2 out of (I think) 5 total. I'm soooo glad they're publishing this! And that I have it!
Same as above, #3 of 5.
I bought a Jubei-chan resin kit. The picture shows what it might look like assembled and painted... not that it is, yet (maybe ever?). Hey, I wanted it anyway. Besides, I might make this as a costume for next year's con.
I'm enough of a Masamune Shirow fan that I bought this, Ghost in the Shell II: ManMachine Interface. Untranslated manga compilation, in Japanese. First edition, with a mousepad. Maybe I'll be able to get my husband to translate bits of it for me... but mainly I wanted the pictures. Yeah, I like the way he draws... some people say it's sexist, but I don't care because the female characters are always so strong and tough.
12" tall action figure (doll?) of Motoko Kusanagi from the original Ghost in the Shell manga. REALLY well made (and anatomically correct -- gulp!!). I figure I can use this as a posing mannequin if I get back into drawing anime girls myself. This one came with extra cyber-arms, guns from the original manga, a belt with a tiny gun holster and velcro pouch. Fun.
6" Motoko Kusanagi figure. Different outfit. Slinky but good.
I'm a Clamp fan (although I've never seen or read Rg Veda). This art book was pretty, so... I bought it.
X/1999 art book, Clamp again. Some of the illustrations are kind of goofy, but overall I was very very happy with this one.

I also got some Spy vs. Spy plushies for my brother, some Sakura Taisen 3 plushies for my husband, and some Sakura Taisen 3 character keychains. I'm sure there's other stuff... I just can't remember offhand and/or I don't have pictures.

Orlando got some great music CDs, too, like the original theme music for Jubei-chan!
