Journal entry for January 16, 2003:
NEW Computerrific!
Well, I thought that last brainwipe of my computer would work...
but... it didn't. Same thing started happening again. So, on the
theory that the C: drive was the one having issues, we swapped C:
and D: (moved the jumpers, etc. etc.). The theory was... I would
use the D: drive as my main drive and the old C: drive wouldn't
be used at all.
So, we reinstall the operating system and everything on the other
drive, and... the same thing eventually happened AGAIN. Argh! It's
got to be the CPU or the motherboard or maybe the power supply died...
I don't know and I don't care, because I gave up and bought a new
computer. I salvaged the DVD-ROM and the CD burner and the zip drive
from the old computer...
The new computer is Nice. It's faster and more stable and so on,
and, those are all good things. Plus it didn't make a huge dent
in my bank account, despite replacing a computer that WAS top of
the line (two years ago).
Anyway, I've been reinstalling applications and everything's going
verrrry smoothly. Me happy. As you've seen from my website, I use
my computer as a focus for most of my major activities -- for telecommuting
to work... updating webpages... and, it ties in heavily with my
creative process, both through this journal and through my access
to various illustration and photo-editing programs.
Whee fun! I hope I can get it up to speed in time for my Haupage
game on Neverwinter Nights tomorrow. I had to skip last time because
my computer was dead, and the time before that, I showed up late
thanks to some computer issues (GEE, in retrospect, now I know why
I was having so many computer issues! Grrr...)
